At St John’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive education for your children but also in supporting you as parents / carers. This page will signpost you to a variety of contacts and useful websites as well as keeping you informed of how staff at St John's can support you.
We have a Learning Mentor at St John's Catholic Primary School, Catherine 🙂
Her role includes working with children, parents, carers, teachers and other agencies on various issues which may affect a child's learning. These can include:
- Punctuality and Attendance
- Changes in behaviour causing detriment to learning
- Friendship issues
- Low self-esteem and confidence
- Settling in of new children
- Transition to new classes, key stage or high school
- Support parents or carers with routines, managing behaviour at home
- A point of contact for parents and carers on a daily basis.
Catherine works with children on a 1:1 basis or in a small group to help improve the situation and assist children to re-engage in their learning. The involvement of parents in this type of work is important and highly valued. If your child is working with a Learning Mentor you will receive regular communication - your thoughts and feedback is important.
Catherine loves working with children and families and her door is always open. Anyone is welcome to discuss any problems or ideas they may have. If you want to contact Catherine, you will find her on the school gate most mornings or you can call the school office. She also hosts our 'Time to Talk' mornings which takes place on the first Tuesday of every month.
The Learning Mentor role includes working as part of the Safeguarding Team and Catherine is a named DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead). This service includes supporting families and children in times of crisis and working closely with other partner agencies.
If you are concerned about your child you are encouraged to speak with Catherine to discuss any worries so support can be offered or you could be signposted to another agency.
