The online world offers amazing opportunities but also brings elements of potential risk and, for Parents & Carers, making sense of the online world can appear to be an enormous challenge. Unlike previous generations, the online environment is an integral part of children’s lives and therefore we can no longer consider their wellbeing or safety without also considering their relationship to technology. However, staying safe online is fundamentally about behaviours rather than the technology itself and if approached from this perspective, we can begin to gain confidence to support our children.
At St John's Catholic Primary School, we are committed to helping our children stay safe, happy and responsible when using technology both in school and at home.
As part of this commitment, we subscribe to the Knowsley City Learning Centres online safety service, which provides schools and families with up-to-date guidance, newsletters and videos linked to current apps, games, social media platforms and online trends.
Through this subscription, parents and carers will have access to:
-
Regular online safety newsletters
-
Short information videos and guides
-
Advice about popular apps, games and devices
-
Support with parental controls and privacy settings
-
Guidance on cyberbullying, online communication and digital wellbeing
-
Tips to help children use the internet safely and responsibly
The online world changes quickly and these resources help families stay informed about potential risks, age restrictions and ways to support children in making safe choices online.
We will share resources throughout the year via newsletters, Seesaw and our school website to help parents and carers feel confident in supporting their child’s online safety at home.
